1. Jandy Sand Filters: Reliable Simplicity

  • Description: Sand filters represent a time-tested and cost-effective filtration solution. The sand filters function by passing pool water through a bed of specially graded filter sand, which effectively traps dirt and debris.
  • Functionality: Pool water is pumped into the filter tank, flowing through the sand bed. Contaminants are trapped between the sand particles, and the clean water is returned to the pool.
  • Maintenance: Maintaining sand filters involves periodic backwashing to remove accumulated debris. The sand typically needs to be replaced every 5-7 years.
  • Advantages: Low initial cost, simple operation, and minimal maintenance requirements.
  • Disadvantages: Filters larger particles compared to cartridge or DE filters.

2. Jandy Cartridge Filters: Precision Filtration

  2. Jandy CV Cartridge Filters: High-Flow Performance:
  • Functionality: Water flows into the filter tank and through the pleated cartridge, where contaminants are effectively captured.
  • Maintenance: Cartridge filters eliminate the need for backwashing, conserving water. The cartridge requires periodic removal and cleaning with a hose.
  • Advantages: Finer filtration than sand filters, no backwashing (saving water), and energy-efficient operation.
  • Key Features: Space-saving design, easy-to-remove cartridge, and compatibility with Versa Plumb systems.
  • Specifications (Example – CS100): With a filter area of 100 square feet, the CS100 model is well-suited for pools with limited equipment space. It has a design flow rate of 1 gpm/sq. ft., a maximum flow of 100 gpm, and can handle a six-hour capacity of 36,000 gallons and an eight-hour capacity of 48,000 gallons. The maximum working pressure is 50 PSI.
  • Ideal For: Pools requiring high flow rates and extended cleaning cycles.

Jandy DEV Diatomaceous Earth (DE) Filters

  • Description: DE filters provide the highest level of filtration, capable of removing particles as small as 5 microns. They utilize diatomaceous earth, a fine powder, as the filter medium.
  • Functionality: Water is pumped through grids coated with DE powder. The DE traps even the smallest particles, resulting in exceptionally clear water. DEV filters have a curved grid design that creates balanced water flow throughout the filter tank, and are constructed with a heavy-duty, durable composite body made of corrosion- and UV-resistant materials.  
  • Maintenance: DE filters require periodic backwashing and the addition of fresh DE powder.
  • Advantages: Highest level of filtration, producing exceptionally clear water.
  • Disadvantages: Requires handling of DE powder and more frequent maintenance than sand or cartridge filters.
  • Specifications (Example – DEV48): With a filter area of 48 square feet, the DEV48 model provides exceptional clarity. It has a design flow rate of 2 gpm/sq. ft., a maximum flow of 96 gpm, and can handle a six-hour capacity of 34,560 gallons and an eight-hour capacity of 46,080 gallons. The maximum working pressure is 50 PSI.
  • Ideal For: Pool owners who prioritize the absolute clearest water and are willing to perform slightly more maintenance.
