I’ve been building pools for a long time, and I’ve learned that many so-called “new features” are mostly marketing hype. But once in a while, something truly useful comes along and makes me think, “This will actually help pool owners in real life.”
Here are three things arriving in 2026 that I’m honestly excited about, not because they look fancy, but because they fix problems I see people struggle with every day.
You know that frustrating moment when you’re trying to warm up your pool before guests arrive, and the app just refuses to work? You keep tapping the screen, restarting your phone, maybe getting a little annoyed. Meanwhile, people are coming over in a few hours, and the water is still ice cold.
That problem is about to go away.
New pool systems now work with the smart home setup you already use. Just like asking Alexa to turn off the lights, you can control your pool the same way. Say, “Hey Google, warm up the pool,” and it’s done. No extra apps, no confusing manuals, and no last-minute panic calls.
What really makes a difference is how smart these systems are. They can spot problems before something breaks. If your pump starts acting up, the system notices and alerts you early. That means no cancelled pool parties because equipment failed overnight.
I saw one of these systems at a friend’s house recently, and her pool almost takes care of itself. The chemicals stay balanced automatically. The temperature adjusts based on the weather. She said she hasn’t had to think about pool maintenance for weeks.
That’s the kind of upgrade that truly changes how people use their pools.
I’ll be honest, about five years ago, whenever someone talked about eco-friendly pools, I assumed they all looked bad.
That’s definitely not the case anymore.
The sustainable materials available today look amazing. Some tiles are made from recycled glass, and they reflect light in a way that regular tiles just don’t. There’s also locally sourced stone that gives a real Florida feel without needing to ship materials from far away.
One client recently installed a natural filtration system that uses plants instead of heavy chemicals. His kids swim in it every day, and he doesn’t have to worry about chlorine irritating their skin.
What really surprised me is that the financing has improved, too. There are green building incentives and special programs now that didn’t exist before. You’re not always paying more to make an eco-friendly choice, sometimes it actually saves money.
Maybe I am getting a bit softer with age, but I like the idea of building something that the next generation won’t have to fix later.
This idea is still pretty new, but it’s going to become very common soon. Once you try it, it’s easy to see why.
We once worked with a friendly couple building their first pool. We showed them the 3D designs on the computer, and they loved everything. They approved the plan, and construction started. Then one day, during the build, the wife looked at the waterfall placement and said, “Wait, I thought it would be over there.”
We spent almost an hour trying to understand what went wrong. In the end, we realized she had imagined it differently in her mind than how it looked in the drawings.
Now imagine putting on a VR headset and walking through your backyard before any digging starts. You can stand on your deck and look at the pool. You can see the view from your kitchen window. You can even check if the spa blocks the sunset. If something doesn’t feel right, you can move it until it does.
I watched a demo last month where they caught something no one noticed before, a tanning ledge would have stayed in the shade most of the afternoon because of a nearby tree. Because they saw it early, they could change the design right away and avoid weeks of problems during construction.
It’s like test-driving a car before buying it, except you’re test-driving your entire backyard.
I build pools for a living, and I’ve watched trends come and go. Most of them are just hype with good marketing behind them.
But these three are different. They’re not about making pools look fancy. They’re about making pool ownership easier.
You shouldn’t need expert knowledge to keep your pool water clean. You shouldn’t feel bad about the impact on the environment. And you definitely shouldn’t spend months waiting and a huge amount of money only to end up disappointed with the result.
These new ideas help solve those problems. They’re not perfect and won’t suit everyone, but they’re a big improvement over what we’ve had before.
And that’s something worth being excited about.
